Concrete Paving Mechanic - Longview

Essential Job Functions
  • Inspect concrete paving equipment including slip form pavers, trimmers, placers, in addition to other heavy construction. equipment to detect faults and malfunctions.
  • Keeps equipment operating by following operating instructions, troubleshooting breakdowns, maintaining supplies, performing preventive maintenance, calling for repairs.
  • Diagnose faults or malfunctions using computerized and other testing equipment to determine the extent of repair required.
  • Adjust equipment and repair or replace defective parts, components or systems using hand and power tools.
  • Test repaired equipment for proper performance and to ensure that work meets manufacturers’ specifications.
  • Assists in moving of the paving equipment and conducts proper machine setup and adjust concrete pavers to meet specific jobsite requirements and widths as needed.
  • Operates and run equipment as requested.
  • Clean, lubricate and perform other routine maintenance work on equipment.
  • Service attachments and working tools such as blades, ploughs, winches and side booms.
  • Maintains equipment records by annotating services and repairs.
  • Attendance required according to company attendance policy to ensure crew is able to operate at normal proficiency level.
  • Follow all safety policies and PPE use.
Required Skills and Experience
  • Have at least 5 years of experience with a focus on concrete paving equipment.
  • Gomaco and Caterpillar experience a plus.
  • High School Diploma or General Education Degree required.
  • Must have a valid driver's license (Class B required) to occasionally drive noncommercial vehicles.

  • Must be able to work with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to multi-task, good organizational skills.
  • Must have a strong commitment to job safety and diligent in demonstrating safe work practices.
 
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are normally Monday through Friday 6:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; however, evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand. 
 
Travel
Travel to jobsites required, company service truck provided.
 
Physical Demands
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee up to and over 2/3 of time at work.  The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear and taste or smell. The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 25 pounds and will frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.  Some equipment can be extremely heavy and will require a lot of strength to move or manipulate.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.  Must have the ability to quickly respond appropriately to unexpected events.
 
Work Environment
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.  The employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; outside weather conditions, rough and uneven surfaces, and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
