Asphalt Manager - East Texas

Essential Functions
  • Responsible for the organization, work methods, scheduling, cost control, conformity with drawings and specification, workmanship, and assignment of work to accomplish the execution of the work, either directly or through General Foreman or Foreman.
  • Ensuring the safety of crew members and the public who may interact with job.
  • Training of Asphalt Foremen and new crew members.
  • Calculating the number of trucks required to haul asphalt from the hot plant according to vehicle capacity, traffic conditions, distance from work site, and productivity of drivers.
  • Touring job sites to ascertain progress in meeting time schedules, to detect insufficient utilization of workers and equipment, measure slope and material thickness to verify compliance with contracts, and to supervise the job.
  • Supervising and coordinating crew activities, studying production schedules, and estimating work requirements for completion of job assignment in compliance with or beating the job estimate.
  • Maintaining time and materials records necessary to complete daily job costing, prepare progress reports material used, cost and adjusts work schedule accordingly.
  • Maintaining company policy.
  • Recommends measures to improve productions methods, equipment performance, product quality, and crew performance.
  • Maintain a positive working relationship with clients, architect/engineer, suppliers, subcontractors, and jobsite staff.
  • Will directly supervise multiple crews
 Required Skills and Experience
  • 3-5 years direct experience of related asphalt and paving experience or an equivalent combination of education and training.
  • Solid understanding of construction means and methods including costs, scheduling and quality control.
  • Superior knowledge of construction drawings and specifications.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiple and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals to
       compute rate, ration, percent, land to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Ability to keep time and material records.
  • Valid driver’s license with clean driving record.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position. Days of work are normally Monday through Friday 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.; however, evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.  Hours of work are determined by the supervisor based on deadlines set by the client.
 
Travel
Travel to the jobsites is expected for this position.

Physical Demands
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.  The employee is frequently required to sit, climb, and use hands to signal and handle equipment. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, crawl, kneel, bend, and reach with hands and arms above their shoulders.  The employee must occasionally lift and/or move anywhere up to 50-75 lbs.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision and depth perception.  Must have the ability to quickly respond appropriately to unexpected events. This position may require long periods of standing and being subjected to adverse weather conditions. Consistently wear common protective or safety equipment such as but not all inclusive safety shoes, glasses, gloves, hearing protection, and hard hats.
 
Work Environment
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.  While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and equipment; outside weather conditions, rough uneven surfaces and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places and risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
