Field TXDOT Level 1B Asphalt Technician - East Texasnician
Essential Functions
Responsible for all aspects required of a Level 1B Roadway Specialist.
Perform testing of asphalt materials for conformance.
Develop an in depth understanding of various test procedures for asphalt.
Acquire understanding of TXDOT and agency specifications.
Closely work with superintendents and supervisors to address quality related issues.
Report test results to management.
Recognize failing materials or any issues immediately.
Ability to understand asphalt property relationships.
Maintain equipment annual calibrations and certifications.
Ensure compliance and proper renewal of certification.
Qualifications
At least 2 year(s) of experience as a level 1B tech and management experience preferred.
Computer Skills: Outlook Emails, Microsoft Office, and Timekeeping System.
Capability to work construction hours during high seasons.
Good organization and interpersonal skills.
Ability to perform basic conversion and calculations.
Ability to lift up-to 50 pounds.

Communicate effectively and professionally with supervisors, employees, and inspectors.
Perform work safely and follow company policies along with agency requirements.
Understand traffic control safety and compliance.
Work at various project locations.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position. Days of work are normally Monday through Friday 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.; however, evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.
Travel
Travel to the jobsites is expected for this position.
Physical Demands
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee up to and over 2/3 of time at work. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear and taste or smell. The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 25 pounds and will frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Some equipment can be extremely heavy and will require a lot of strength to move or manipulate. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Must have the ability to quickly respond appropriately to unexpected events.
Work Environment
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; outside weather conditions, rough and uneven surfaces, and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
