Roller Operator, Asphalt

Essential Functions
  • Safely operate a variety of rollers including 9-wheel, sheepsfoot, vibrating and smooth wheel.
  • Understand and inspect the environment around the equipment before operation, to protect people and property.
  • Operate roller with adherence to common operational practices, including efficient digging and safety.
  • Keep track and log counts of roll passes, read and understand rolling patterns, attention to detail in rolling lines.
  • Clean and perform daily preventative maintenance on assigned equipment.
  • Perform other duties on the jobsite when equipment is not in operation, as to add to efficiency of the overall operation.
  • Attendance required according to company attendance policy to ensure crew is able to operate at normal proficiently level.
  • Follow all safety policies and PPE use.
 
Required Skills and Experience
  • Must have strong verbal communication skills, ability to read and write.
  • Employees must be able to work without direct supervision.
  • Complete and abide by all safety training and other provided training.
  • Must have reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license.
 
Competencies
  • Employee must be able to work without direct supervision.
  • Ability to multi-task, good organizational skills, and able to work with minimal supervision.
  • Must have a strong commitment to jobsite safety
  • Diligent in demonstrating safe work practices.
 
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position. Days of work are normally Monday through Friday 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.; however, evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.  Hours of work are determined by the supervisor based on deadlines set by the client.
 
Physical Demands
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee up to and over 2/3 of time at work.  The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear and taste or smell. The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 25 pounds and will frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.  Some equipment can be extremely heavy and will require a lot of strength to move or manipulate.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.  Must have the ability to quickly respond appropriately to unexpected events.
 
Work Environment
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.  The employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; outside weather conditions, rough and uneven surfaces, and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
